Gluten-Free Citrus Glaze Cookies

McKenzie
Fluffy orange glazed cookies lined up on a wire baking rack with a black plate of them beside.

Holiday cookie staples are typically sugar, gingerbread and in my house lots of chocolate! Citrus however is a commonly skipped yet very festive way to balance out that cookie box and delight those who may not enjoy your typical holiday treats.

I was shared a few versions of this recipe by both family and friends and asked to make it for the blog, both recipes however included buttermilk and shortening which seemed overly complicated so I opted for a simplification to the original holiday recipe many of us know – omitting buttermilk and shortening while also using Gluten-Free 1:1 flour. They turned out great and with less ingredients to worry about it saves you a trip to the store!

As you’re making these cookies you’ll find that the scent of the orange will fill your kitchen, bringing about a welcome burst of energy and sense of clean at least that’s what citrus does for me. There’s something calming this time of year about clean and fresh scents, especially when you’re often bombarded with notes of sugar and spices, which i’ll admit I equally love.

So take some time to add to your cookie tray, enjoy over Christmas or on New Years day!
